Smart, funny, insightful and full of love of all different kinds. An absorbing read for those who are interested in the intricacies of family life or who just want a fine, atmospheric story. I really got to know these characters and care about their individual realities.

Now that the book is out in paperback, it is being placed front and center again. I was very surprised by it when it was first released in 2006, because it is such a dark horse. Is there a more meticulously defined character in modern fiction than Frank Bascombe? He is now in his mid-50's, selling real estate on the Jersey Shore and dealing with prostate cancer.
